HORSMAN'S INSTANTANEOUS DROP SHUTTER

  E.I. Horsman, 80 and 82 William Street, New York            1890 - late 1890's

Horsman's Instantaneous Drop Shutter was included as part of an outfit for their No. 33 "Eclipse" camera:

This shutter makes its appearance with the introduction of the No. 33 "Eclipse" by 1890. Although this example is unmarked, the shutter is clearly labeled "Instantaneous Drop Shutter" as seen in an ad engraving appearing in Scovill's The American Annual of Photography and Photographic Times Almanac for 1890:

Horsman's "Eclipse" cameras are not seen very often and the No. 33 "Eclipse" is one of their rarest models. With only four known examples of the camera, one of which is seen here equipped with Horsman's Instantaneous Drop Shutter, this may be the only known example.
